Lowe’s participates on Tampa build site for Habitat National Women Build Week
More than 18,000 women construction volunteers unite nationwide to build up their communities with local Habitat for Humanity affiliates.
TEMPLE TERRACE, FL (May 7, 2018) – For the 11th year, Habitat for Humanity and Lowe’s are engaging women nationwide to work together to build Habitat homes during this year’s “National Women Build Week” from May 5-13. On Thursday, May 10th, a team of ten volunteers from Lowe’s North Dale Mabry store will be volunteering for the local Women Build construction event in Temple Terrace hosted by Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County.
Habitat Hillsborough’s Women Build is an eight-week home building event involving more than 150 women volunteers that has been underway since April 7th. The home, which is being built for Tangerla Burton and her four sons, will be completed by May 26th. The volunteer team from Lowe’s will be painting interior walls of the home on Thursday. In support of Habitat Hillsborough’s Women Build, Lowe’s also hosted a “how to” clinic in early April to help equip participating Women Build volunteers with power tool knowledge and safety techniques in preparation for their work on the construction site.
As part of National Women Build Week, Lowe’s and Habitat are activating a social movement to generate conversation about building one another up and sharing the message of women empowerment, positivity and action by using #BuildHer and #WomenBuild on their social media pages.

Lowe’s helped launch National Women Build Week in 2008 and has brought together more than 117,000 all-women construction volunteers to build or repair homes with nearly 5,000 families over the past 10 years. This year, Lowe’s donated $2 million to Habitat for Humanity to support the 2018 National Women Build Week, and provided how-to clinics at stores to help equip women volunteers for the builds. Since 2003, Lowe’s has committed over $30 million to Habitat for Humanity International and helped more than 6,500 Habitat families improve their living conditions.
