Volunteers and corporate partners raise more than the roof for Habitat Hillsborough’s Women Build
Their t-shirts boast that “girls play house, women build them.” But for this year’s Habitat Hillsborough Women Build, the 150-plus women volunteers are fueling the construction event with more than a can-do attitude and a giant helping of girl power.
The Women Build volunteers have personally fund-raised an astounding $90,000 to help cover construction costs on the home for Tangerla Burton and her four sons! Combined with support from our corporate sponsors, a total of $119,000 has been raised to offset Women Build costs. Wow!
Women Build event sponsors include TCM Bank, who also co-sponsored last year’s Women Build, and WellCare. PepsiCo, Lowe’s and TECO are also contributing sponsors. In addition to their monetary donations, all have volunteer teams participating on the construction site located in Temple Terrace.
Women Build volunteer participation requires a commitment to help on the build site and an individual fund-raising goal of $600. As this year’s construction event passes the halfway mark, Habitat’s Women Build volunteers have surpassed their goals in both areas. The home is being built enthusiastically and on schedule with a record amount of funding. A Women Build win-win!
The Women Build home is projected to be finished by May 26th. Soon the last hammer will have swung and the last paint brush will be dry, and Women Build 2018 will come to a close. But the legacy of hard work and generosity will live on through the Burton family and their home for decades to come.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of Women Build 2018!
