Barr Family Opens Door to Homeownership
On a September Saturday morning, community volunteers, friends and family gathered to celebrate with Rhonda Barr and her children as they received keys to celebrate the purchase of their new home. Rhonda, who contributed more than 300 hours of “sweat equity,” purchased her home from Habitat for Humanity with an affordable mortgage.
The path to homeownership has not be easy for Rhonda, a single mother of four children who works more than fifty hours per week and attends school part-time. Despite her challenging schedule, Rhonda remains committed to providing a better life for her children “in hopes of leaving something behind, making their path easier than mine.”
Dan Crowther, Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County Vice President of ReStores, made the key presentation to Rhonda. The two Habitat ReStores, located at 3736 E Hillsborough Ave and 11236 W Hillsborough Ave in Tampa, generate considerable proceeds for the organization, and they help to make Habitat’s homeownership program possible. 
The dedication concluded with the traditional “laying of hands on the home” and a prayer from Pastor Brian Brown of LifePoint Community Church.
On behalf of her family, Rhonda expresses her sincere appreciation to all those who made her home possible. “Thank you! The opportunity that Habitat, my home sponsors and the volunteers are giving me is a dream come true. Owning my home at an affordable cost will open a lot of doors for me and my children.”
