Kids’ Model Home Building Virtual Competition
Enter your child for a chance to win!
Habitat Hillsborough is encouraging kids to get creative during these stay-at home days with a model house building competition. Kids ages 4 through 12 can enter the contest, building a 3 dimensional model house out of materials of their choice, to be voted on by the Habitat Hillsborough staff.
“It’s a fun opportunity for kids to express their creativity and work on problem solving skills while learning a little bit about Habitat for Humanity,” said Callie Lupica, Habitat Hillsborough Volunteers Manager. “It also provides parents with a fun project to keep kids engaged while they’re at home because of school closings.”
Objective: Build a 3 dimensional model house made of pretty much anything as long as your child builds it!
Age Groups: Ages 4-7, 8-12
Building Guidelines: The home should be a 3D model/interpretation of Habitat homes that should include at least 4 walls and a roof. Build the house out of the material of your choosing. We challenge you to get creative! Some suggestions include LEGOs, cardboard, popsicle sticks, a deck of cards, paper mache… anything you can think of!
The house should be built from scratch. This should be a kid’s project. Parents should only provide minimal help if needed and, of course, can help if there are safety concerns (e.g. cutting cardboard or using a hot glue gun).
How to enter: Competitors will submit their finished creation by photo. When your child’s house is completely finished, take a good photo or two along with a few bullet points describing the home. (Make sure it is a good picture since that is what people will see when voting and will be spotlighted on our social media pages and website.
Final Submissions must be emailed to volunteer@habitathillsborough.org and must include:
- Name of child (you may request that this remain anonymous)
- Age
- Mailing address
- Photo of the completed project
- A name or title for the masterpiece!
- Bullet point description of the home and what it means to the child
- A list of materials used
- SUGGESTED: In addition to a photo of the project, we encourage at least one photo to include the child pictured with their project so that we may recognize them and their masterpiece! If the parent has an Instagram account they’d like us to tag, please include as well!
Submissions are due by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27th. Habitat Hillsborough staff will vote for the winners May 28th – 29th.
Winning Entries: Voting by the Habitat staff on the best looking, most creative, and most unusual materials will determine top 3 finishers in both the 4-8 and 9-12 age categories. Winners will be featured on Habitat Hillsborough’s Facebook and Instagram social media pages and will receive a Certificate of Recognition acknowledging the category win. (All entries will be able to be viewed on our website www.HabitatHillsborough.org)
Good luck kids!!
